Volunteering

You can volunteer while you are an asylum seeker and when you get your leave to remain. Volunteering is not paid work, but can give you experience in working in the UK.

Benefits of volunteering:

  • You will be speaking to English people and therefore will develop your language skills

  • You will be able to write about your volunteering on your CV. Being a volunteer shows that you can be reliable and a good worker.

  • It will give you something to do instead of being at home bored all day.

  • You can learn new skills - working in a shop, gardening, cooking, painting, fixing things etc

  • It is a good way to show your support for the United Kingdom.

  • Sometimes volunteering can lead to the offer of a paid job with the organisation you volunteer with.
